Know Your Water Before Choosing Your Filter

Every water source is different. Municipal water, borehole water and stored water can have different water-quality characteristics, which is why the correct filtration system should be selected based on the water and the intended use.

A water analysis can help identify which treatment processes may be required and assist us in designing a filtration or purification system suited to your requirements.

What can be tested?

  • pH — measures how acidic or alkaline the water is and can affect treatment performance and corrosion.
  • Electrical Conductivity (EC) — provides an indication of the water’s dissolved ionic content.
  • Alkalinity — measures the water’s ability to resist changes in pH and is important when assessing water treatment.
  • Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) — measures the amount of dissolved material in the water.
  • Dissolved Metals — identifies metals present in the water, which may affect water quality, taste, staining and treatment requirements.
  • Hardness — assesses calcium and magnesium levels that can contribute to scale and limescale.
  • Mercury (Hg) — tests for mercury in the water.
  • Inorganic Ions — includes testing for chloride, fluoride, nitrate, nitrite, bromide and sulphate.
  • Colour — measures the colour of the water and can help identify potential treatment requirements.
  • Ammonia — measures ammonia and ammonium in the water.
  • Turbidity — measures cloudiness caused by suspended particles.
  • Langelier Saturation Index (LSI) — helps assess the water’s tendency to form scale or be corrosive based on factors such as pH, temperature, alkalinity, TDS and calcium.

Why water testing matters

Water testing helps us understand what is in the water and what treatment may be required. The results can be used when selecting:

Designed around your water

At The H2O Hub, we can use your water analysis results together with your flow rate, pressure, daily water usage and intended application to help determine a suitable filtration solution.

This allows us to design a system rather than simply selecting a standard filter.

Please note: Water testing and filtration can identify and treat specific water-quality concerns, but no single filtration system removes every possible contaminant. The appropriate treatment depends on the water analysis and intended use.

Need your water tested?

If you are experiencing limescale, sediment, unpleasant taste or odour, staining, cloudy water or changes in water quality, a water analysis may be a good starting point.

Send us your latest water analysis and let us help you determine the appropriate filtration solution.
