How your backup system works

A typical backup water system can include a storage tank, pump, control equipment and appropriate plumbing connections.

Water is stored when supply is available and can then be used during an interruption, depending on the system design. Gravity-fed systems can provide water where suitable, while pump-assisted systems can maintain the required pressure for taps, showers, appliances and other applications.

For larger properties, multiple tanks and pumps can be configured to provide increased storage capacity and improved water distribution.

Every property is different, which is why we recommend assessing new and existing installations before selecting tank capacity, pump size and system configuration.

Municipal & alternative water sources

Where municipal water is combined with another water source, such as stored water or borehole water, the system must be designed carefully to avoid unwanted cross-connections and protect the municipal supply.

Depending on the installation, appropriate backflow prevention, separation and plumbing controls may be required.

We consider the existing plumbing and intended use of the water when designing the system and recommend suitable components for the application.
